Wisdom tooth extraction

When a tooth needs to be removed for any reason, it is typically grasped with a dental crown forceps and pulled out. When this is not feasible, it requires a surgical procedure.
In all cases, tooth extraction is done through oral surgery when the wisdom tooth is beneath the gum or in the bone.

The most common situation in which a wisdom tooth needs to be removed through oral surgery occurs when the wisdom tooth is unable to break through the surface of the gum. This inability to erupt can be caused by a lack of space or because the wisdom tooth is positioned abnormally in the jawbone.
It is also common when the wisdom tooth is only partially able to break through, with part of the crown emerging, but the rest of the tooth surface is still covered by mucosa. Over time, this becomes painful, and at this point, removal becomes necessary.

If the wisdom tooth is not removed in time, the surrounding mucosa may become inflamed, which can be painful. The wisdom tooth can also cause problems when it creates crowding in the dental arch due to lack of space. This misalignment of the teeth is always noticeable, as the other teeth shift. Before starting orthodontic treatment, this should also be considered, and if the lack of space is the cause of the dental crowding, the wisdom tooth should also be removed.

If dental crowding is ignored in the long term, it can not only cause aesthetic problems but also lead to gum inflammation. The risk of tooth decay is also much higher when the dental arch is crowded due to the wisdom tooth.
