When is it recommended to undergo a tooth-preserving treatment?
The goal of tooth-preserving treatments is to maintain our natural teeth for as long as possible and restore their integrity in case of any issues. The primary aim of dental care is to preserve the health of natural teeth, which can be achieved through dental fillings/inlays, root canal treatments, periodontic treatments, as well as fissure sealants for children as a preventive measure.
Is your tooth chipped, decayed, or sensitive? Do you regularly struggle with food getting stuck? Tooth decay, which has become a widespread issue, affects nearly 100% of the population. In cases of minor decay, the cavity is cleaned, and the tooth is restored with an aesthetic filling, preventing further spread of the decay and ensuring the problem remains unnoticed by others. For more extensive decay, which affects the deeper layers of the tooth, the bonding of a dental inlay made by dental technicians becomes necessary. If the tooth pulp (nerve) is also involved, a root canal treatment is required. With these procedures, even teeth that have fallen victim to decay can be preserved in the long term without any aesthetic or functional issues.
Would you like to prevent tooth decay? Preventive care for children helps avoid the development of cavities. In their case, we recommend sealing the deep, hard-to-clean grooves with a special filling material within six months after the eruption of the permanent teeth.
Do you often experience gum bleeding? Has anyone in your environment pointed out your unpleasant breath? Are you noticing tooth mobility? You may need periodontic treatment! These procedures ensure the inflammation-free condition of the tissues that maintain the stability of your teeth. In cases of gum and periodontal disease, the supporting structures that secure the teeth are damaged, which, if left untreated, can lead to a decline in tooth stability and ultimately tooth loss.

Detailed information about fillings
Aesthetic filling
It is a perfect alternative to the traditional amalgam (dark-colored) filling.
In which cases is it necessary/applicable?
- Cavities
- Wear
- Fracture
- Aesthetic needs
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Replacement of amalgam filling
How is it made?
- The old filling and/or cavity are removed, and after shaping the cavity properly, we clean the cavity, apply the appropriate adhesive material, and then insert the filling material in thin layers.
- Each layer is individually cured using a photopolymerization device ("blue light") developed for this purpose.
- Finally, the filling is refined using polishing drills and discs.
Alternatives:
- Composite, ceramic, or gold cast fillings (inlay/onlay)
- Porcelain veneers, crowns
(These are primarily recommended for large cavities.)
Inlay or cast filling (inlay, onlay, overlay)
A solution for decades.
Haven't you often daydreamed about no longer having issues with your filled teeth? Are you tired of one of your old fillings always breaking, discoloring, or making your tooth sensitive underneath? Do you feel like it's an endless cycle happening in your mouth?
Here is the solution!
The dental inlay is the most perfect and durable solution among fillings! For every cavity, from small to gigantic!
This is a type of filling made by a dental technician and secured with adhesive.
In terms of material, the following options are available:
- Plastic (similar to composite fillings, but much more durable due to the technical work phase)
- Porcelain (ceramic)
- Gold (the most durable and perfect solution, but due to its yellow color, it is primarily used for molars)
- Gold-ceramic (the yellow color of gold is covered by tooth-colored ceramic, but since this is not possible on the entire surface, a thin gold edge remains on the filling)
- Zirconium (metal-free ceramic)
In English literature, it can be found under various names. Let's take a look at the differences!
The difference in names is only due to the size and extent of the inlay. In terms of properties and how they are made, they are the same.
Inlay:
A smaller inlay that does not reach the cusps.
Onlay:
A larger inlay that reaches the cusps.
Overlay:
A larger restoration that extends beyond the cusps.
After a brief introduction, let's see in which cases it is applicable/recommended.
- Instead of composite or amalgam fillings, if you're looking for a more durable and aesthetic solution.
- In cases of large and/or deep cavities, when plastic fillings cannot restore the tooth.
- It can also be suitable for anchoring bridges.
How is it made?
- For larger cavities, it is advisable to request anesthesia. (The prices include the cost of anesthesia. You will hardly feel anything, just that it quickly becomes numb.)
- We remove the old filling and/or decay, and create a special cavity.
- Especially in the case of gold cast fillings, we create a special light-cured "insulating" layer, which has two purposes: firstly, it helps reduce your costs, as the price of the filling largely depends on the amount of gold used; secondly, it eliminates the metal's good heat conductivity, thus preventing your tooth from becoming sensitive to hot or cold after the filling is completed.
- Once the special cavity is prepared, we take a precise impression. (This ensures that the inlay fits perfectly into the created cavity, preventing future decay.)
- In the case of plastic or ceramic inlays, we select the tooth color to ensure that the finished inlays remain completely "incognito."
- Since this type of filling is made by a dental technician, we need to wait a few days (usually 3 working days). Of course, during this time, you won't have to live with "gaping holes," as we will place a temporary filling in your tooth, which will be easily and comfortably removed in one go during your next visit.
- The next time, when the work is complete, after removing the temporary filling, we bond the inlays. If they are made of gold, we polish them onto the tooth, further perfecting the marginal seal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Several factors influence how often we recommend dental calculus removal (e.g., tendency for tartar formation, oral hygiene technique, saliva composition, etc.). However, we recommend it every 3-6 months for everyone to prevent oral diseases. Yellowish or brown deposits on the teeth, gum bleeding during brushing or even spontaneously, and unpleasant breath can indicate the need for dental calculus removal and suggest when it's time for the procedure.
Plaque forms on the surface of the teeth during meals, which, if not removed regularly and effectively, hardens and appears as dental calculus on both the crown of the tooth and the areas below the gum line. If regular dental calculus removal, recommended every 3-6 months, is neglected, we may face uncomfortable symptoms of gum inflammation, and in severe cases, periodontal disease, which can even lead to the early loss of our teeth.
We always finish dental calculus removal with polishing to smooth out surface irregularities. In sandblasting polishing, we use finely ground, fine-grained sand to achieve a mirror-smooth surface, making it more difficult for plaque to adhere and form calculus. With the help of the sandblaster, discolorations can also be gently removed, resulting in a better aesthetic outcome compared to the traditional polishing brush and paste method.
A dental inlay is a type of filling made by a dental technician and bonded by the dentist. Due to its perfect marginal seal, it does not develop decay underneath. It is also well-suited for large, deep cavities.
The filling hardens with light, so it can be used immediately afterward, meaning you can eat and drink. However, if the filling was done under anesthesia, you should avoid eating until the numbness wears off to prevent any potential injuries.
Depending on the extent of the damage, we can restore the lost tooth material with a filling or an inlay. If the break is larger and deeper, and possibly involves the dental pulp, a root canal treatment may be necessary, and the preparation of a crown may also be considered.
During the assessment, we will examine the condition of the periodontal tissues and gums using a probing tool: we will evaluate bleeding, tooth mobility, gum recession, and detect any pockets. Afterward, we will jointly evaluate the results of the examination and discuss the necessary treatment.
Closed curettage is a deeper cleaning procedure where we remove dental calculus and inflamed tissue from below the gum line. It is performed under local anesthesia, so there should be no pain. Closed curettage helps reduce gum inflammation, thereby preventing or slowing down the loss of jawbone.
Unfortunately, periodontal disease is not a reversible condition, but with regular check-ups and treatments, its progression can be slowed. Without treatment, it will eventually lead to tooth mobility and loss. Regular monitoring and treatments can prevent this.
Fissure sealing is recommended for newly erupted permanent teeth, particularly when the grooves on the molars are quite deep. These grooves are difficult to clean properly, and bacteria can easily settle in them, leading to a higher risk of cavities. Therefore, fissure sealing is used not for treating cavities, but for preventing them.
Of course! Contrary to common belief, it is very important to take care of the health of primary teeth, as they can have a significant impact on the permanent teeth that erupt later. Decayed primary teeth should also be cleaned and filled. Without treatment, early loss of primary teeth can occur, leading to additional risks.
It is advisable to schedule a dental check-up when the primary teeth begin to erupt, but at the latest, the first screening should take place by the age of 1. This allows for checking the health and proper development of the teeth and is also a key factor in fostering a positive attitude towards the dental environment. It is important that the child associates pleasant experiences with dental professionals and check-ups, as this will influence their future dental visits and help prevent dental anxiety and fear.
If root canal treatment is necessary, the first appointment involves drilling the crown of the tooth, locating the root canals, and cleaning them. Disinfectant and anti-inflammatory material are placed in the cleaned canals, followed by a temporary filling until the permanent filling is ready. At the next appointment, the permanent root filling is placed. The complete restoration of the tooth is finished with a filling, inlay, or crown.
The treatment begins with thorough anesthesia, and we always ensure its effectiveness, so there is no need to worry about pain.
